Students: how to furnish for free!

It’s that time of year again. The college year is fast approaching. Some people will have been down this road before. Others will have only just received offers from the CAO and this is a whole new world.

The search for accommodation.

It’s stressful! You’re online looking at all the options. Picking your criteria and then realising that you will probably have to relax on the criteria or rob a bank in order to afford it. The net widens and you eventually shortlist a few places to go and view.

So you make your way there hoping this will be The One – the place that you can afford, is tolerable and means you can stop stressing (about accommodation, at least).

You walk in, it smells fine. The carpets look reasonably clean. It’s a decent size. You could see yourself living here for the year.

Ok, the tv is on the floor in the corner but it works and there’s a chair there. Not a great chair but a chair to sit in nonetheless. It might be a BYOS (Bring Your Own Seat) affair when friends come over. The bedroom is fine as well – there’s a bed. And a stool. Nowhere to put your laptop for doing college work though, but it’s a laptop and you have a fully functional lap.

You’ll take it. You can afford it (just) and you just want to get off the merry-go-round at this stage.

It’s a bit Spartan but it has a chair and a tv in the living room and a bed in the bedroom.

That pretty much describes at least 2 of my years in college and the end of the search for a place to live. If only FreeTrade Ireland had been around then. I just went on this morning and searched for Furniture.

First up: sofas. I could take my pick.
TV stand? Check.
Wardrobe? Check
Bedside locker? Check.
Study desk? Yup.

The best part? It’s all free. As a student, this is music to the ears.

In 5 minutes, you’ve found free items that will transform the place and you’re set for the year!

Here's an idea of the kind of items you could kit your place out with on FreeTrade Ireland.

We realise it's been a while since we've been in college so here's a current student's blog giving their perspective on how FreeTrade Ireland can improve the life of a student
